Embraer has secured a substantial order for 133 aircraft from American Airlines Group Inc. to cater to domestic demand in the United States. American has definitively placed an order for 90 E175s with Embraer and retains purchase rights for an additional 43 jets. The aircraft will feature 76 seats in American's standard dual-class configuration. The total value of the deal, assuming the exercise of all purchase rights, exceeds US$7 billion at the list price, and the firm orders will be incorporated into Embraer’s 1Q24 backlog.

The E175 stands as one of the most favored aircraft in the region, with 837 aircraft sold, including the current firm order for 90, and an 88% market share since 2013.

American Airlines CEO Robert Isom stated, “Over the past decade, we have made substantial investments to modernize and streamline our fleet, making it the largest and youngest among U.S. network carriers. These orders will contribute to the continuous renewal of our fleet with more advanced, fuel-efficient aircraft, enabling us to provide the best network and exceptional operational reliability for our customers.”

American is committed to integrating larger dual-class regional aircraft into its fleet, enhancing connectivity from smaller markets to the broader airline network. The airline plans to retire all of its 50-seat single-class regional jets by the end of the decade and will persist in serving small and medium-sized markets with larger regional jets.

Upon completion of the new Embraer E175 deliveries, dual-class regional jets are anticipated to constitute a significant portion of American’s regional fleet.

Arjan Meijer, President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, expressed, “The E175 truly serves as the backbone of the U.S. aviation network, linking every corner of the country. As one of the world’s most successful aircraft programs, the E175 underwent enhancements that improved fuel efficiency by 6.5%. This contemporary, comfortable, reliable, and efficient aircraft continues to provide the connectivity the U.S. relies on day after day. This marks American’s largest-ever single order of E175s, and we express our gratitude to American for their ongoing trust in our products and people.”
