Saudi Arabia To Launch New Airline, Riyadh Air

Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has officially announced the creation of Riyadh Air, a new national airline. Riyadh Air, which is set to become new Saudi Arabia's national airline, will be based in the capital city and plans to expand its network to over 100 destinations by 2030.

While the airline has not announced its fleet, the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund has stated that it intends to acquire modern aircraft equipped with the latest technology to ensure world-class safety and sustainability.

"Establishment of the airline is aligned with the mandate to further enable the aviation ecosystem in Saudi Arabia. Riyadh Air will usher in a new era for the travel and aviation industry globally and will provide tourists from around the world the opportunity to visit Saudi ArArabia'sultural and natural attractions.” says the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund. 

The anticipated GDP growth for the kingdom from the newly established carrier, Riyadh Air, is around $20 billion, and it is projected to create over 200,000 jobs. 

Saudi Arabian Airspace 

Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the governor of the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, will serve as the chairman of Riyadh Air, while Tony Douglas will be the chief executive. 

Tony Douglas stated, "Riyadh Air will be a digitally native airline, driven by a pioneering spirit with an obsessive focus on attention to detail and innovation at its heart.”

“We aim to permanently transcend our guests’ perceptions and experiences of flying in the modern world.” - Concludes Douglas.

According to the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, local and international professionals will comprise the senior management team. Furthermore, the carrier will take advantage of its strategic location between Asia, Europe, and Africa.

As per the Fund, Riyadh Air will play a crucial role in the kingdom's national tourism and transport strategy by increasing passenger and cargo air transport options. The airline is expected to open up promising sectors and aid in diversifying the economy, ultimately leading to a more financially resilient aviation ecosystem.
