Svend Skipper Andersen, AirNav RadarBox Danish ADS-B Feeder in Kolding, Denmark

Svend Skipper Andersen is an industrial electrician and one of our feeders in Denmark who has been sharing ADS-B data with  AirNav RadarBox since May 25, 2019.  His setup and antenna are mounted on top of a flagpole, 8 m / 26 ft meters above ground - 52 m / 171 ft meters above sea level. Continue reading our blog post to discover Svend's story and advice for new feeders.

Andersen's ADS-B station is ranked first in RadarBox's ranking of ADS-B stations in Denmark. His unit has a range of 236 nautical miles (437 km), covering parts of Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands, and Poland. Impressive!

His setup consists of a 66 cm ADS-B antenna 9 m / 30 ft low loss Ecoflex 10 coax cable, a 1090 MHz bandpass filter, and a stick Plus ADS-B USB receiver. The signal is fed into a Raspberry Pi 3 B+. "I would have preferred a high mast or perhaps a 12 meters flagpole, but the WAF (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wife_acceptance_factor) blocked that possibility.", Says Svend.

He tells us how he got interested and found out about AirNav RadarBox: "I found RadarBox when I was interested in a plane that flew over my house. I found the plane on RadarBox and was grateful that other people had invested time and money in feeding it, so I decided that I too wanted to contribute to the community. I track amateur satellites and weather probes put in orbit by people worldwide, so they can receive the signals they transmit."

Svend adds, "The good thing about being a feeder is that it helps RadarBox help aviation professionals worldwide. The business subscription is also a huge bonus. RadarBox has a wonderful and helpful community. If you have the parts, you can set up an ADS-B in an hour, without any knowledge at all, thanks to the RadarBox software and community. My next project is feeding airband audio to RadarBox."
